Pain is often triggered when a caries slowly advances into the interior of the tooth. If no treatment is given for several weeks, the nerve inside the tooth can become inflamed.

Many years ago, it was often necessary to remove teeth whose nerve had become inflamed (so-called pulpitis). Today, these teeth can often be preserved for years - modern root canal treatment procedures (endodontics) make this possible.

Root canal treatment to preserve damaged teeth according to new medical findings

Thanks to modern root canal treatment with highly flexible instruments (made of extremely pliable nickel-titanium) and new types of mechanical drive systems, root canal treatment can now usually be completed in a single treatment appointment.

Chemical disinfection of the canal system (using various rinsing solutions) increases the chances of successful treatment.

If the tooth substance is very badly damaged, we rebuild the tooth with glass fibre posts. These are tooth-coloured and are not visible even under the all-ceramic crowns often used today.

In this way, it is usually possible to preserve even teeth with inflamed nerves.
