Periodontology in our practice in Munich Trudering
Treatment of gum or periodontal disease
Periodontitis is a disease of the gums and the periodontium (tooth bed). In common parlance it is often called "periodontosis".
Initially, the gums become inflamed - recognizable by redness and swelling. Bleeding gums and bad breath are the first signs, later gum pockets develop. The inflammation is caused by bacteria on the tooth and root surface.
After some time, the bone surrounding the root of the tooth continues to degrade. If the degradation is sufficiently advanced, the teeth become loose and eventually tooth loss occurs.
Gum treatment procedure
Depending on the determined need for treatment, a gum treatment in our dental practice in Munich Trudering includes the following treatment steps:
- Detailed examination of the gums and jawbone with measurement of the gum pockets and discussion of the examination results
- Gentle gum treatment (periodontitis therapy) according to international standards and individually adapted follow-up care
- Ultrasonic tooth cleaning of the tooth root surface in gum pockets ("scaling")
- Surgical periodontitis therapy if required
- bacterial test
- Antibiotic treatment
- Mucogingival surgery (gum surgery)
- Re-grafting and bone augmentation with enamel matrix proteins
Gum treatment
During gum treatment, the root surfaces are thoroughly and gently cleaned. Gum pockets are cleaned using ultrasound and hand instruments to promote the natural healing process so that gum pockets can close again.
In order to maintain a permanently stable result in the form of healthy gums, regular check-ups (at least every six months) in conjunction with professional dental cleaning (prophylaxis session) are recommended.
